Alex Kamberis Bio

Doyles Room BonusWinning a triple crown is a big deal in any sport. In online poker, the Triple Crown most familiar to fans is likely the one awarded by PocketFives.com. In order to win a P5 Triple Crown, a player must win three different online tournaments over a single week, each of which has a field of at least 100 players and a prize pool of $10,000 or more. Obviously, winning a PocketFives.com Triple Crown is very difficult, and any player who wins one is an incredible accomplishment.

So what about winning three times? That’s just what Alex “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis has done, and it’s just part of his legendary online poker resume. In just a few short years of online poker, Kamberis has amassed over $4.7 million in career earnings, becoming one of the most feared and revered online players in the world.

As you might have guessed from the Hoosier in his screenname, Alex Kamberis is an Indiana native. Kamberis first learned how to play poker the hard way: by losing lots of his own money to his friends and online opponents. He started out in high school, with the help of another successful young player, Jason Glass. His early forays into online poker mostly resulted in losing small deposits and trying again. But after beginning to play online at age 18, Kamberis quickly improved, and by 2007 he had made the move to playing full time. With the bad habits of a beginner behind him and with a string of great results proving that he could make it as a poker player, Kamberis had launched his professional career.

Although Alex Kamberis has won many online tournaments, including two major victories at PokerStars in the span of just over two months in 2009, by far his biggest score came in a tournament where he wasn’t the ultimate winner. In September of 2008, Kamberis made an incredible run to the final table of the Main Event of the World Championship of Online Poker. Though Kamberis bowed out in 3rd place, he took home $941,735. These results helped vault Kamberis to the top of online poker, earning Card Player Magazine’s 2008 Online Player of the Year award.

Though Kamberis is primarily an online player, he has occasionally found success in the live game as well, having cashed twice on the World Poker Tour and another time at the World Series of Poker.

Alex Kamberis takes a different approach than many of today’s young pros. Compared to the loose-aggressive style common among many high rollers, Kamberis takes a more classical tight-aggressive approach. But even if some may find it a bit conservative, there’s no arguing with Kamberis’ results; the style that has historically worked for many of the world’s best players may have fallen somewhat our of fashion, but it has definitely worked for him.

These days, Kamberis is known to his fellow poker players as one of the greatest online tournament poker players around, which made him a natural inclusion in the Doyles Room Brunson 10, which he was invited to in early 2010. As one of the most well-liked and highly respected players in the online poker community, Kamberis brings a level of prestige to the Brunson 10 that few other players can match.
