Rumors of Doyle Brunson Death
While rumor is that pokerstar Doyle Brunson is dead, it is difficult to verify, as many are willing to take either side of that chance and may raise the stakes, or even bluff with uncertain additional information. While some may swear against it, including Doyle himself, we can’t be absolutely sure due to Doyle’s recent wager against such an incident and the fact that he might be bluffing.

All poor attempts at humor aside, Doyle Brunson is alive and kicking. In fact, earlier today we saw him ride a scooter into the Bellagio and then with the assistance of a cane, a gift from his childhood friend Moses (or was it that guy with the ark? Noah?), hobble into Bobby’s Room to play some $4,000 / $8,000 mixed game poker against Phil Ivey. Perhaps it is Doyle’s good natured personality, or his numerous prop bets relating to how long he’ll live, or the fact that he is as old as dirt that spark rumors each year about his death.
With Doyle Brunson in good health we can all have some fun joking about his age. However, when we do someday, likely soon, need to report on Doyle Brunson’s death, it will be a sad day for the poker world. Doyle Brunson has accomplished more in his life time than anyone could imagine. We’d say his story would make for a great book, but because that book has already been written, we need to rephrase that by saying: The story of Doyle Brunson’s life is a must read book for all poker fans, gambling historians, or for those who would like to know more about Doyle Brunson. This book is called “The Godfather of Poker”, and it is available for free in the Doyles Room Store.
Well before the days of internet poker, Doyle Brunson was making a living in the illegal Fort Worth, Texas games run by organized crime. During these days, he needed to sidestep police, hijackers and murderers, which he did between competing in hands worth more than a million dollars and sweating out situations where his last dollar relied on the outcome of a card.
Doyle Brunson would go on to become a famous poker author, the winner of ten WSOP bracelets including back to back Main Event Championships, and a member of both the World Series of Poker Hall of Fame and the World Poker Tour’s poker walk of fame. Doyle also came face to face with incurable cancer with months to live and no card to help him, but somehow he managed to cheat death and become cancer free.
There is magic in the Doyle Brunson story. In fact, a few who know him well might not be surprised if after Doyle Brunson’s death he somehow rises from the grave to win the WSOP the following year. While such a prediction might be far-fetched, the good news is thatwe don’t need to think about such a thing, because the latest reports Doyle Brunson is dead (no matter when you’re reading this artcle) are likely nothing more than rumor, bluff or practical joke.
At Doyles Room Bonus, we wish Doyle Brunson good health and hope he can live long enough for us to win the “when will Doyle Brunson Die Pool”.
