Steve Gross Bio
With over $5.4 million in online tournament winnings, Steve “gboro780” Gross is one of the most accomplished online poker professionals in the history of the game. For a long time, many people wondered when Gross would finally get the sponsorship deal he so obviously deserved, and the answer came in early 2010, when the online tournament icon became one of the Brunson 10.

Gross began playing poker as a student at Rowen University in New Jersey during his freshman year, when games in his dorm were commonplace. Like many players, he had to make several deposits before the lessons he had learn would finally stick, resulting in a few small tournament wins that would ultimately give him the bankroll he needed to move into bigger and better things.
By utilizing the resources the Internet made available to him, Gross quickly improved his game and found himself winning larger amounts month after month. His first major cash actually came in a live event, which he won around $100,000 by chopping at the final table of a $2,800 buy-in event at Foxwoods.
But Gross’ biggest successes would come in the realm of online poker. From 2009 to early 2010, Gross put together a string of five huge cashes that showed he was among the best online poker players in the world. After finishing 2nd in a $1 million guaranteed tournament in January 2009 – a cash of over $126,000 – Gross would take down his biggest ever cash just a month later, by winning Event #10 of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series in February. That cash gained Gross not only $275,000, but also the respect of the online poker community. Two more top three finishes within the next year, along with two wins in the $109 rebuy tournament on PokerStars in early 2010, firmly established Gross as one of the elite names in the business.
However, Gross didn’t limit his success to the online world. While he hasn’t put up the prolific numbers in live tournaments that he’s accustomed to in online play, he has cashed in seven different World Series of Poker events, and won the $5,000 six-max tournament at the 2010 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, which added $135,970 to his winnings.
Nonetheless, Gross is best known for his online exploits, and with good reason. It’s hard to believe, but Gross has actually won over 100 different online tournaments. We’re not talking about SNGs, either; Gross has won 100 signfigant online poker tournaments, all of which have had buy-ins of over $20 (most over $100), and first prizes of at least $1,000 – most for much, much more. It’s hard to imagine a player showing more consistency over their career than Gross has, which goes a long way toward explaining his incredible results.
Given his massive winnings and amazing results, it was no surprise to see Steve Gross picked up by someone – and as a young star of the online poker world, the Brunson 10 seemed like a natural place for him to end up. With a record of excellence that has put Gross near the top of the online leaderboards year after year, Gross is likely to have the staying power to become a true poker legend.
